Human Rights Prize to Reykjavik Gay Pride

Recently Reykjavik Gay Pride was awarded Reykjavik´s Human Rights Prize at an official cermony attended by members of the city council, the city’s committee on equal rights as well as members of the Reykjavik Gay Pride. Reykjavik´s  Human Rights Prize is awarded annually, after a nomination from the committee on equal rights and given to a individuals, a group or an organization for an outstanding contribution to the humanitarian cause.

The city council of Reykjavik has a long tradition of an active support to the queer cause and has been Gay Pride´s main sponsor since 2001. Reykjavik Gay Pride is by far the single largest LGBT event held in Iceland and since first held 1999 has grown to be among the biggest events in Iceland. The Reykjavik Pride 2011 will be held 4–7 August, with a Pride Parade on August 6th (source: www.gaypride.is).
