It may be the darkest month of the year but visiting Reykjavik in December is an adventurous and fun thing to do. It´s becoming more and more popular for tourists to visit Reykjavik in December who are able to enjoy various events and activities, indoor and outdoors. Just keep in mind you can´t count on the weather so keep a flexible schedule and be ready to play things by ear.

If weather allows hop on a bus to see some of Iceland´s most popular tourist attractions such as the Golden Circle, a trip to the Blue lagoon is always a good thing to do as is a visit to some of the local outdoor swimming pools in Reykjavik (geothermal), no matter what the weather is like. There are handful of interesting museums to visit in the center and if you want to go shopping just stroll down Laugavegur shopping street in the City Center or go to Kringlan or Smáralind shopping mall.

If you´re here on the 24th and 25th of December, keep in mind that many restaurants and cafes will be closed. There are usually a few gay events to attend. For new years eve Icelanders like to party like there´s no tomorrow, with fireworks in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. Pink Iceland is offering a New Year's Countdown which includes a group dinner, bonfire, fireworks and very Icelandic New Years Eve House Party in downtown Reykjavik, something which is hard to beat. Kiki Queer Club (Laugavegur 22) will be open new years eve and will usually get very busy so show up early (around midnight) to avoid waiting in the line (which can be fun though!).

Have fun in Reykjavik!
