"We´ve already beaten our record number of guests signing up for the event this year, the complete pass is about to be sold out but everyone will be able to show up for the parties organized during the weekend" says organizer Frosti Jónsson. "Last year was our biggest event but this year will be bigger which makes us who organize the whole thing very happy. But it´s still a small event compared to many of the bear events out there and thats what makes it special. Determining our future | The National Queer Organization calls for a meeting

"We´re standing on crossroads and It´s time to look into our work, prioritize and determine future policy" says Anna Pála Sverrisdóttir, chairman of Samtökin '78 (The National Queer Organization of Iceland) but June 1st the organization calls for a national gathering of queer people to "discuss where we stand as an organization, our strategy and issues we need to address in the future".

Reykjavík Shorts & Docs 2013

The 11th Reykjavík Shorts&Docs Festival is coming up. At the Shorts and Docs festival a selection of short films, animations and documentary films from across the globe will be presented with a special LGBT section which includes three documentaries and two Icelandic short films by Barði Guðmundsson (A Man Apart) Guðni Líndal Benediktsson (No Homo). Below is a list of LGBT films presented at the festival:

Bóbó (A Man Apart) by writer and director Bardi Gudmundsson takes place in a little town in Iceland in 1973. The Vietnam War is coming to a close as the world buckles underneath new attitudes and changing priorities. Far from the din of history, in a small village in the south of Iceland, a young man falls for a soldier at the nearby US army base.

There is a significance | The world´s first openly gay pm leaves office

Today is a national election day and Mrs. Johanna Sigurdardottir steps down as Iceland´s prime minister and the world´s first openly gay head of government after four years in office. No matter where you stand in politics, if you agree or disagree to the politics and vision Johanna stood for, we should be able to agree that an openly gay head of state has made a significance for the LGBT community and for the better.

The fact that she is a lesbian, has brought a lot of attention around the world which is important for gay people of all nationalities wherever they live. The absence of openly gay politicians is something we definitely need to address and change, our voice has to be heard on all levels if we are to make a difference for the better.
